This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect when you use composting-toilet.info, why we collect it, and what rights you have. It is an English-language adaptation of the privacy policy used on our sister site trockentrenntoilette.net, adjusted to this site's own setup. Processing of personal data is limited to what is technically necessary to provide a working, secure website.
The controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Leon Bretschneider
Steinbrink 26

This website is hosted by an external service provider (hoster) on servers located in the European Union. Personal data collected on this website is stored on the hoster's servers. This may include IP addresses, contact requests, meta and communication data, website access data, and other data generated through a website.
Each time this website is accessed, our hoster's system automatically records information in server log files that your browser transmits. These are: browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, host name of the accessing device, time of the server request, and the IP address. This data is not merged with other data sources. It is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: we have a legitimate interest in a technically error-free presentation and the security of our website. Log data is kept for a limited period and then deleted.
This site sets no analytics or advertising cookies until you actively accept them through the
consent banner shown on your first visit. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (via
localStorage), not in a cookie sent to us, so we do not have to ask again on later
visits. Any cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to function may be set without
consent on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; all other cookies and tags are only loaded after
your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG. You can withdraw your consent at
any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the banner back on your
next visit.
Ahrefs Web Analytics. We use Ahrefs Web Analytics, a service provided by Ahrefs Pte. Ltd., to understand which pages are useful and how visitors find the site. Ahrefs Web Analytics is cookieless, does not store data on your device, does not create cross-site user profiles, and does not collect data that identifies you personally; aggregated measurement data is processed on servers in the European Union. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in the statistical analysis of our website under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Google Tag Manager. The site includes Google Tag Manager (Google Ireland Ltd.) so that, in future, consent-gated tags can be managed without code changes. It is currently dormant: no container is configured, so no tags and no analytics or advertising services are loaded through it. If this changes, Google Tag Manager and any tag it loads will only run after you have given consent via the banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), and this policy will be updated beforehand.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not run personalised advertising or cross-site ad tracking on this site.
This site uses web fonts provided by Google (Google Ireland Ltd.) for a consistent presentation. When a page loads, your browser retrieves the required fonts from Google servers, which transmits your IP address to Google. This is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: we have a legitimate interest in the uniform display of our website. More information is available in Google's privacy policy and at the Google Fonts FAQ.
If you contact us by email or telephone, the details you provide (for example your name, email address, phone number and the content of your message) are stored so that we can handle your request and any follow-up questions. We do not pass this data on without your consent. It is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request relates to a contract or pre-contractual steps, and otherwise on our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) where it has been asked for. We keep this data until your request has been dealt with and no retention obligations require us to keep it longer; you can ask for its deletion at any time.
There is no contact form on this site; enquiries reach us only through the email address and phone number published on the contact page and in the legal notice.
Some links to manufacturers or shops on this site are affiliate links, including links under the Amazon partner programme and comparable programmes run by manufacturers or networks. If you follow such a link and buy a product, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. The shop or network you are forwarded to acts as its own controller for any data it collects once you leave this site; please refer to that provider's privacy policy. Using affiliate links does not influence which products we cover or how we rate them.
For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the "https://" prefix and the lock icon in your browser's address bar. While it is active, data you transmit to this site cannot be read by third parties.
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
• obtain information about your personal data processed by us (Art. 15 GDPR);
• have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16 GDPR);
• request erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR);
• request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR);
• receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20 GDPR);
• object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR);
• withdraw a consent you have given, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany). You may also contact the supervisory authority in your usual place of residence.
We object to the use of contact data published in our legal notice for sending unsolicited advertising or information material. We expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of the unsolicited sending of advertising, for example by spam email.
We may update this privacy policy so that it always reflects current legal requirements or to implement changes to our services, for example when a new feature is introduced. The current version always applies to your next visit.
