The Verdict

A sturdy, no-frills Eurobox toilet

The Kildwick BoxLoo is deliberately kept compact: with a length of 40.00 cm (15.7 in), width of 30.00 cm (11.8 in), and a height of 28.00 cm (11.0 in), it corresponds to the common Eurobox format.

The Kildwick BoxLoo is deliberately kept compact: with a length of 40.00 cm (15.7 in), width of 30.00 cm (11.8 in), and a height of 28.00 cm (11.0 in), it corresponds to the common Eurobox format. The BoxLoo's weight of 3.5 kg (7.7 lb) makes it well suited for mobile use, for example in a camper van. The toilet is designed for users up to 120 kg (264.6 lb) and, thanks to its compact construction, is especially suitable for mobile use. The package also includes the Spillguard Kit with lid and silicone seal, which serves as overflow protection and is also intended to slow down odor development.

Assembly

The BoxLoo arrives already assembled. No assembly is necessary, which we find particularly practical, since it's ready to use immediately. Anyone who transports the toilet regularly benefits from the straightforward handling. Thanks to the minimalist construction, everything stays neat and tidy.

Material and workmanship

The Eurobox body of the BoxLoo is made from recycled polypropylene (PP) and HDPE, while the urine diverter is made from ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). The PP and HDPE material is sturdy, easy to clean, and comparatively environmentally friendly, since HDPE is easily recyclable. The ABS in the urine diverter, on the other hand, comes from fossil raw materials and is problematic to recycle, which we consider a minor drawback.

In practice, the workmanship feels solid: the box is sturdy, handy, and stackable. We transported it frequently and never felt it was unstable. It's also positive that the separation of liquids and solids works reliably, and that the box overall feels sturdy enough for mobile use. Also worth highlighting positively is the robust and custom-designed toilet lid, which closes securely via a click system and stays firmly in place.

Comfort

As a Eurobox toilet, the comfort is naturally limited. We found the 28 cm (11.0 in) seat height rather uncomfortable. For mobile use, spontaneous trips, or festivals, this is entirely sufficient, but we would definitely not recommend the box for larger or older people.

Emptying is uncomplicated, and by removing the urine diverter you get direct access to both containers. A small deduction is due to the fact that you always first have to remove a plug from the urine outlet and find somewhere to put it down.

Odor development

The separation of liquid and solid waste works reliably. According to the manufacturer, the box is sufficient for 8-10 liquid uses and 4-6 solid uses before it needs to be emptied. Unfortunately, the Spillguard lid doesn't help minimize odors, which is why there is also a kind of plug that must be removed before every small use and reinserted afterward. We find that fairly impractical, especially since odor protection is no longer in place while the toilet is being used, and urine smells definitely do emanate from the toilet.

Value for money

At around 139 €, the BoxLoo falls into the rather affordable range for Eurobox toilets. The solid workmanship, the well-thought-out lid, and the functional Spillguard system justify the price. A small deduction is due to the ABS urine diverter, which is not ideal in terms of sustainability, and the rudimentary solution for preventing urine odors.

Our conclusion

The Kildwick BoxLoo is convincing as a functional Eurobox composting toilet for mobile use. Particularly positive are the handy build and the custom-designed toilet lid. There are compromises regarding the sustainability of the urine diverter and odor protection. For short camping trips, festivals, or minimally equipped campers, the BoxLoo is a practical and uncomplicated solution.

A comparable model that performed very similarly in a direct Eurobox comparison is the very popular BilaBox from TROBOLO.
