The Verdict
The lowest price here, with nothing left to set up
With a height of 30.3 cm (11.9 in), a depth of 40 cm (15.7 in), and a width of 30 cm (11.8 in), the BilaBox is compactly built and weighs just 2.9 kg (6.4 lb).
With a height of 30.3 cm (11.9 in), a depth of 40 cm (15.7 in), and a width of 30 cm (11.8 in), the BilaBox is compactly built and weighs just 2.9 kg (6.4 lb). This makes it currently the lightest composting toilet known to us. What particularly and positively surprised us was the robustness and stability of the toilet. Its load capacity is up to 150 kg (330.7 lb), in line with most composting toilets on the market.
Thanks to its practical dimensions, the BilaBox fits easily into the trunk and can be carried and transported comfortably thanks to the notches on the sides.
Assembly
The BilaBox relies on a particularly simple system: it arrives fully assembled and is ready to use immediately. Compared to its predecessor, the 2nd generation BilaBox also includes a solids container as part of the package. This just needs to be lined with an inlay, and the toilet is ready to use.
Material and workmanship
The BilaBox is made of polypropylene, a robust plastic that is resistant to wind and weather. Even after prolonged use, the material feels sturdy and durable.
The urine diverter gives a high-quality impression and feels noticeably sturdier than many other variants on the market. Overall, the workmanship comes across as solid and functional.
Comfort
At a seat height of 29 cm (11.4 in), the BilaBox is clearly below the level of a regular toilet, but that didn't bother us in mobile use. What mattered more to us was handiness, and here the BilaBox was able to demonstrate its strengths.
Thanks to its low weight, we could lift and stow it easily at any time. The toilet lid, which simply clips onto the back part, also convinced us in use. Overall, we found the BilaBox practical and uncomplicated. What we additionally appreciated was the urine fill-level indicator. Thanks to this, we never had to open or remove the liquid container and could simply read the fill level from the outside.
Odor development
As with all composting toilets, the clean separation of solid and liquid waste ensures that odors are effectively reduced. This is supported by bedding material in the solids container.
We particularly noticed the TROBOLO SafeShell System positively. It prevents urine odors from escaping the liquid container and also protects against leaking while driving. In our test, this kept the BilaBox completely odor-free.
Value for money
At a price of 139 €, the BilaBox is among the cheapest mobile composting toilets around. Despite its light and simple construction, it offers practical solutions that we experienced as well thought out and user-friendly in everyday use.
Of course, you have to accept certain compromises in comfort, especially the low seat height. But for its intended purpose as a mobile Eurobox toilet, we think the overall package is absolutely fitting.
Our conclusion
The TROBOLO BilaBox is a well-thought-out, ultra-lightweight composting toilet that's particularly suited for being on the move. Compact dimensions, a clever concept with a urine fill-level indicator, and the SafeShell System make it a reliable companion.
We found the easy handling and low weight particularly positive in everyday use. The seat height is a bit low and the equipment stays simple, but given the very affordable price, the BilaBox delivers a convincing overall package: a solid, functional composting toilet that scores points especially for its value for money and portability.
In a direct Eurobox comparison, we also tested three other popular models in this format, including the BoxLoo from Kildwick, which comes in just barely behind the BilaBox in our test.
